Rocking R barrel saddles are amongst the best on the market right now.
They are made out of a Steele equifit tree, nice and really well built.
I have heard that the quality has been lowered a bit since Randall Black passed away but you hear that about most companies now.
Because Rocking R uses Steele Saddle Trees inside the saddle, it would make a decent buy.

Customer: I got this saddle from a local dealer for less than $1k.
The shop owner had many of these saddles and she allowed me to test them before purchasing.
The Rocking R saddlery company is based in AL, and they were excellent to deal with, asking many questions on how I wanted it exactly made.
It took them 9 weeks to build it but it was SO worth the wait.

Quality: The saddle is beautiful to look at, is comfortable, is tough, and comes with a warranty.
The produces know their stuff. The leather is American-made, and the silver is Montana Silversmiths.
With the additional padding of the seat, it would shrink the seat by about a half-inch.
